Comics and Graphic Novels
Where do you find the most energetic of modern artists and novelists working together?
Monthly comics are usually written in a serial format, with arcs running typically from 3 to 12 issues. This makes it darned difficult confusing to pick up an issue and follow the story.

Yes, that's another thing, Marvel and DC like to take story lines in the most convoluted loops through their various monthly titles. If you're lucky, your local comic shop might collect story arcs across titles and sell them as a set. Failing that, the graphic novel is your answer. You can sit down and read a satisfying, self contained story in one volume. The collection as of November 2007
