5 1/4" floppy disc 3D Helicopter Simulator was released in 1987and must have been one of the first sims to support head to head play via a modem. For it's time it looked outstanding with 3 dimensional polygon choppers and scenery. John D. Yarrow got his hands on the 5 1/4" version. It occured to me that some readers might never have seen a 5 1/4" disk so I scanned it in it's full glory. 0
A Citizen Soldier in the Air Charles H. Cook flew a B-24D named "Cookie" with the 90th Bombardment Group in the southwest Pacific in 1942-1943. At that time, Allied forces were greatly outnumbered, and Japanese invasion of New Guinea and Australia was a very real threat.

Bruce Irving has interviewed Charlie Cook and composed this valuable record of his aviation career. The entire article is also available for free download here - Charles H. Cook.

Charles H. Cook passed away on on Saturday January 20th, 2007. He is missed by his friends and family.

B-24 Liberator Lt. Charles H. Cook flew a B-24D named "Cookie" with the 90th Bombardment Group in the southwest Pacific in 1942-1943. At that time, Allied forces were greatly outnumbered, and Japanese invasion of New Guinea and Australia was a very real threat (the 90th BG became known as the "Jolly Rogers" later in the war). Charlie is now 80 years of age, and over the next couple of months we will be presenting material based on a 3 hour interview with him, plus reams of photographs and newspaper clippings we have unearthed relating to his flying career. 0
Chuck Yeager Audio Chuck Yeager was the first person to break the sound barrier and a virtuoso pilot as well as a Fighter Ace who flew in World War 2, Korea and Vietnam. Do you remember a 1980's flight sim called Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer ? Probably not. Anyway the sim featured a 1 hour cassette of the man himself recounting tales from the workd of flight testing and giving tips on flying in general. Listen to it here - Chuck Yeager's Advanced Flight Trainer 0
Cuban Crisis missions for Fighters Anthology Miles McCorsion of has drummed up a set of Cuban Crisis missions - quite timely given the release of the movie - "13 days" movie. 0
DX8 debug It seems that in DX8, the debug output switch was left on for DirectSound, and this slows down sound processing and causes problems in some sims. Download this little file and you will be able to turn off the debug functions in DX8. 0

Orbiter ational.

Based on the real science and math of orbital mechanics and atmospheric flight, it features a first-person astronaut's perspective and beautiful 3D graphics. Orbiter's developer, Dr. Martin Schweiger, has created an amazing virtual world of real and fictional spacecraft, space stations, planets, and moons. It includes a variety of spacecraft, space stations, and sample scenarios or "missions.".

The Flight Sim Museum is proud to host Bruce Irving's free guide to Orbiter - "Go Play In Space".

Scenery upgrade for Digital Integration's F/A-18E Super Hornet. In July 2000 Pretzelworks released a scenery upgrade for Digital Integration's F/A-18E Super Hornet. In January 2001 I took it for a spin and compared the difference with the default textures. 0
Su-27 2.5 Training Missions Successful repetition breeds success. That's a fundamental guiding principle in training for any complex activity - including flying your simulated jet fighter! These missions are relatively simple. Variables are kept to a minimum and introduced one at a time. That means you'll have fun and be able to keep on top of things while getting the satisfaction that comes from sharpening your skills. Pick a training area - North - South - East or West and start flying. 2000
Su-27 Flanker 2.5 Su-27 Flanker 2.0 was released for Xmas 1999 and this major upgrade was released as a free download in 2001. It allowed you to fly my favourite a/c - the MiG-29 Fulcrum ! It also improved 150 other features of the sim, most of which I illustrate in this exhibit.

I also wrote a very simple set of training missions which you can download.
