| Falcon Gold reissue |
Added info on the Falcon Gold reissue (still available) which contains Falcon 3.0, MiG-29, Hornet, Operation Fighting Tiger and Art of The Kill. In my opinion it's worth getting (USD $9.95) for the Art of the Kill video alone! |

Strike Aces or Fighter Bomber was based on the bombing competitions pioneered by Strategic Air Command's Gen. Curtis LeMay - and proved to be a classic on the Atari ST, commodore Amiga and PC. Dante Mendes De Patta sent in these screenshots which show the player aircraft and the F-111 cockpit from what was surely a unique combat sim. |

|
| Wings of Glory |
Tom Cervo remembers: " I have to say it's the only flight sim that makes you feel that you've stepped into a movie--an aviation epic of the 30's. The characters are cliches, but REAL cliches. Origin didn't have too much luck when they strayed too far from space." |

| After the Liberators: A Father's Last Mission, a Son's Lifelong Journey |
The author Bill McGuire from Larchmont, NY wrote me: "This book tells the story of the 8th Air Force mission to Friedrichshafen, Germany of March 18, 1944, in which the 392nd BG lost 14 Liberators. Specifically, it is also about my Navigator dad's final hours, and how I first came to learn the details in the mid-1990s, secure his files, interview surviving vets and visit his old base in England, his burial place at St. Avold, France and the crash site in southwestern Germany (for his plane and two additional heavies.)" |

|
| Their Finest Hour (Battle of Britain) |
Developed by Lawrence Holland for LucasArts in 1989. George Lucas had been a fan of World War 2 movies since childhood, and the famous dogfight scenes in Star Wars were directly inspired by these films... even down to the gun turret in the Millenium Falcon... based on the B-17 Flying Fortress. |

| New Yeager material |
This was one of the first entries in the Museum. He he he - in the beginning the Museum was housed on one, two, then three pages as it grew. Anyway I digress. There's quite a bit of Chuck Yeager info here now. |

Yes, I'm off to Europe for the month of July, so use the opportunity to explore those parts of the museum you've never been to yet. |
| Birds of Prey |
1991 saw the release of an ambitious survey combat flight sim from Argonaut and Electronic Arts. I was still using the Atari ST at the time and I used to drool over the artwork on the box and envy my PC-owning friends ! |
30-Jun-2001 |
|
| Secret Stealth |
The cover art showed a sleek, curved aircraft which represented the "best guesses" by the aerospace industry at the time. Bear in mind that the F-117 was flying in secrecy for about 10 years before the general public got a look at it! Quite a remarkable achievment. Playing this sim on my Atari ST prompted me to get back into scale modelling, so I went out and bought a 1/72 scale F-117 model, which although more accurate in general shape than the F19 guesses still wasn't quite right, being too short and stubby. |

| Marine Air Combat |
Joe Weber is an ex Marine pilot writes exciting Air Combat Fiction. In June 2001 Joe wrote me: "It has been a busy spring for me. "Dancing with the Dragon". (the sequel to Primary Target) is finished -- edits and all. In keeping with my writing style, it is an action-packed, fact-based technothriller about a confrontation with China. My publisher plans to release it in hardcover early next year, (probably in March). Meanwhile, I'm working on the next manuscript !" |

|
| Sega Stealth |
Sega Genesis? Well the museum is about completeness, and with the X-box coming out we will probably see a few light sims for that platfirm. I certainly hope so anyway - F-117 Nightstorm Stealth Fighter. |

|
| B-1B Lancer |
Chino reported: " My brother Glen and I got some great pix from the Cape Cod Air Show on Saturday despite intermittent cloudy/rainy conditions, including this one of a B-1B making a high-speed wings-swept pass. The high humidity made for some cool vapor-compression effects." |

|
| Michael Woodley on Jet |
Michael Woodley developed the scenery for Flight Simulator 2. He recalls: " The game Jet was developed by Charles Guy using Bruce Artwick's technology. He adapted it for the IBM-PC. I don't recall any version of it for any other platform but that was years ago so it may have slipped my memory. It had the interesting feature of being able to run Scenery Disks developed for Flight Simulator." |

| Snowstrike |
Snowstrike was a sim for the Commodore 64 which may have had the very first Carrier take off and landings. It almost definitely had the only PARACHUTE simulation we've seen in a sim ! ! |

|
| Avenger A-10 |

|
| Su-27 Flanker 2 |
I finally picked up this sim in July 2001, 18 months after the release. Awesome. Not just because it looks good - but it actually ran smoothly on my Celeron-466 with only 64 MEG of RAM ! |

| PC Pilot Issue 12 |
PC Pilot Magazine Issue 12 arrived and I can't wait to install the Su-27 Flanker 2.5 upgrade! They have included the non-Voodoo, Voodoo 1,2,3,4 and 5 versions and 115 MEG of training missions. Also on the CD is Warbirds 3, Dawn of Aces, Ripmax - a radio control sim, Len "Viking 1" Hjalmarson's Battle of Britain scenery upgrades, Soaring Simulator 4, Flight Sim Toolkit - Ron Walker's creations, New Zealand nav charts, Utilities for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000, Adobe Acrobat and Winzip 8.0. |

| A HOTAS for the road |
I'm not terribly interested in running spreadsheets - although any gaming PC will blitz the standard business tasks. Travelling Denmark by train I whiled away the time with Red Alert 2, having power points at each seat helped the laptop battery life! But how do you control a sim and dogfight with a touchpad ???? With great difficulty. Chino found a better solution - the Gravis Game Pad |

|
| Red Alert 2 |
The Westwood team gets better and better. Red Alert 2 is a blast! Tongue in cheek and with a slick interface, it is still selling at full retail price 12 months after release and I'm not surprised. There are more sophisticated and more complicated RTS games out there but I doubt there are any with more pure fun factor! |

|
| F-22 Lightning 2 on a 486 |
CPU2Kill reported that he managed to run it on a 486-66 mHz....! It's hard to believe nowadays that 66 Mhz could drive a word processor let alone a flight sim! |

|
| Jet screens |
Satoshi "Bin" Hiranuma, a flight sim fanatic from Nagoya Japan, has a few good screenshots on his site from Jet. They are from the NEC PC-9801 series of PC's. That brings the total so far to Apple ][e, Apple Mac and Commodore 64 and PC versions of Jet. |

| September 11th, 2001: The World Mourns |
On September 11th, 2001 the world was shocked by the attacks on the financial and political / military control centres of the USA. Most of the world would have been glued to the Cable News Network - CNN broadcasts and the information available on their website. The simulation community has responded with messages of condolence and information to try and help the public understand this tragic set of circumstances. Also, in light of the often innacurate speculation that unfortunately creeps into some of the media coverage, I also offer a little information from the simulation perpective. |

| Tom Piercy remembers Flight Simulator I |
What seems passe now was mindblowing in 1980. Tom Piercy has been involved in professional flight simulation since the 1960's and he shares his impressions of Flight Simulator 1 - one of the very first flight sims on a personal computer. |

| Gunship |
The long awaited sequel to Gunship 2000 came out in 2000 - Gunship. Some fans complained about the lack of hard core features - I found it a blast - and an amazing looking blast! About the time I looked at Gunship I read on www.combatsim.com that Australia had decided on the Eurocopter as it's new armed recon chopper - check out Gunship in the Museum to see the Eurocopter kick butt ! |

| iF/A-18E Carrier Strike Fighter |
In 1998 the Flight Sim World was just getting used to the new world of 3-DFX. iF/A-18E Carrier Strike Fighter was released in 1998. It used a variant of the Demon graphics engine developed the year before by iMagic for iF-22. |

|
| Air Strike USA |
Air Strike USA was published by Digital Integration and released on on the PC in 1985. Really an arcade game rather than a flight simulator it is mainly of interest because the Publisher / Design Team Digital Integration went on to produce some of the finest PC Flight Sims ever to grace screens worldwide. |

|
| FOTI screens |
I added a whole slew of screenshots for this classic sim. I first played it on my Atari ST and boy oh boy was it sophisticated!! The sounds were scary and the cockpits daunting. Flying over green billiard table terrain has never been so thrilling since. Why is that? |

|
| KA-50 Hokum |
In 1995 when this sim was published, not much was known in the West about the new Soviet Attack chopper except that it had no tail rotor - TWO counterrotating main rotors and was a single seater. This sim from Simis combined this exotic beast with a dynamic campaign system that had proved it's mettle in SVGA Harrier Assault. |

| Pro Pilot running on empty |
Pro Pilot was a civil aviation sim released in 1997 by Sierra. I bought a copy in 2000. In 2001 I finally got around to trying it out for the museum and scanned the box contents, admired the manual and checklists then realised there was no CDROM in the box! Caveat Emptor indeed .. .. .. no wonder I had gotten it so cheaply! |

| Eurofighter Typhoon |
It's a long time since I have become so immersed in a sim as I have with this one! the level of immersion takes me back to SVGA Harrier Assault. The sim is easy to get into and has a few great innovations - like the ability to save the game at any point. Purists will scream - but how often have you thought - "If only I could try that again.... ". Well now you can. Pure air combat tactics and no distractions, that's Eurofighter Typhoon. |

| MiG-21 Fishbed takes off from Sydney, Australia |
I was lucky enough to be a special guest at the launch of the first MiG-21 to fly in in Australia. The aircraft was so loud on takeoff we thought it had blown up! I'm not joking ! The impressive acceleration combined with its diminutive size meant that it disappeared from sight very quickly. So quickly that itwas difficuly to pan my camera fast enough to keep it in view. A few seconds after takeoff it had literally disappeared. It was awesome to imagine being on the receiving end of a ground attack by jet aircraft - by the time you heard the sound and looked up it would be raining trouble ! |

| Merlin: free helicopter sim |
"The Merlin Helicopter Challenge was developed for use by the Royal Navy for recruitment purposes." Rory Geoghan reminded me about this great little sim. It's a good way to kill 10 minutes and you can run it with the keyboard. Ideal for a laptop. You can download it here. |

|
| Comanche 4: dazzling reflections |
This looks like a winner judging by the screenshots. The ripples and reflections in the water are surely created by a new-fangled 3-D effect that my Banshee 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator Card doesn't support so it may well be time to upgrade the graphics card. |

|
| Calculator Flight Sims |
Hot air balloons and calculators. Sound exciting? How about a lunar landing? This was heady stuff in 1980. These were the days when the ZX81 had 1K of memory. Not 1 megabyte - that's 1024 bytes. Just 1K. |

| Combat Helo |
" Since 1996, crazed rotor-heads have wanted more of that paranoid, heavy metal, hi-tech thrill-ride that is Longbow 2. FIVE years on and the uber simulation of helicopter combat is still as exciting as it ever was, unfortunately our desktop computers and operating systems have moved on making it difficult at best, impossible at worst, to fly our favourite sim." So says Richard Hawley - read about his plans to provide a Combat Helo fix for us |

| Marchetti F-260 sponsored by Janes Combat Simulations |

With an original score and sound effects, as well as a plane with a true military heritage, the Jane's F-260 is the perfect combination of high speed solo aerobatics with high-technology entertainment." |

| F-111 Attack Computer |

| The new world according to Seattle |
Having avoided the slide show frame rates of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000, but having had a ball in Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 2 - I was intrigued to hear that the Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 2 engine was the basis for the new juggernaut. | 5 1/4" floppy disc |
3D Helicopter Simulator was released in 1987and must have been one of the first sims to support head to head play via a modem. For it's time it looked outstanding with 3 dimensional polygon choppers and scenery. John D. Yarrow got his hands on the 5 1/4" version. It occured to me that some readers might never have seen a 5 1/4" disk so I scanned it in it's full glory. |
