From the Cockpit: February 16th 2008Site Progress: Navigation and DatabaseThere is no perfect navigation system (we are talking websites now rather than aviation!). Working on the database structure the past 6 months has given me a much enlarged appreciation of the varied and many ways that a body of knowledge can be organised.Sometimes you will want to hunt for a snippet of information, or use a snippet as a digging tool to burrow into the work. That is when the search facility is a useful tool. Frankly, with the ascendancy of "Google" from a search brand to a verb meaning "to search", I believe this is the way most people navigate the web these days. Another approach is to appreciate the formal structures of the information, and that is where the categorisation of information can help. The Flight Sim Museum indexes are now in 5 main categories and 2 levels. When will this work be completed? Having gone this far, and entered a lot of data into Access, and generated test indexes with it - Test indexes December 2007. - , the next steps are
