The Wright Flyer - Where it all began Chino reported :

"As I write this on December 17, 2000, it is 97 years to the day that this whole airplane thing started with a 12 second flight in gusty winds at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

I dug out my copy of Russel Freedman's book "The Wright Brothers: How they invented the Airplane". Although there are many other books on the Wright Brothers, this one for "young readers" is my favorite. The Wright Brothers: How they invented the Airplane READ ABOUT IT HERE.

INTERESTING FACTOID:
Orville made the 12 second first flight -- Wilbur flew for 59 seconds later the same day before the Flyer was blown over by strong winds, damaged, and retired for the winter.
