eDimensional - Flight Sim Controllers
Voice Buddy 3.0
Command Manager

Review 2005

This is the heart of the program from a flight simmer's point of view.

Here you can :

  • Add your own commands

I like to be able to stop the simulation quickly, in case nature calls, or I need to work out what to do next ! So I pressed "Add" - typed in "Pause" and "S" as the key (for Lock On Modern Air Combat) - and hey presto!

That was it - finished !

Into the sim and yell "PAUSE!"... or say calmly "pause..." and the sim stopped dead. Brilliant. You could use this to cheat your way through a difficult landing or a gun kill but of course I would never do that.

  • Edit existing commands

I haven't used this feature except to poke around and see how eDimensional set up their commands. Eventually I will probably prune a lot of their alternative commands and input my own standardised set. For example they provide in Lock On Modern Air Combat- "Flaps down" and "Extend flaps". But this is way down on the list of things to do, the commands they have provided work fine.

  • Export the commands to a text file

Having a network with the 2nd computer monitor nearby is ideal for providing a "Multi Function Display" on which I like to display maps, and particularly checklists.

Not being a "read the manual first" type I took screen dumps of the command structure in Lock On Modern Air Combat, cropped and "negative imaged" them, and created a pdf file for display on my MFD.

This was good, but not nearly good enough as I had to make frequent use of my new "PAUSE" voice command while I hunted for the appropriate voice command to do the next thing. Not very efficient!

Mmmm.... a glance at the help file said the command sets were printable or - you could export them as a comma delimited text file suitable for import into a spreadsheet! Aha ! Spreadsheet!

Now I could easily sort the commands into checklists.

Merely read the checklists out loud and I was in action!

Going to "Print Preview" and selecting "Landscape format" enabled me to use the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys to page through the checklists. Just like a real MFD! Or close enough for sim-work.

Then, once finalised I'll turn them into negative images with green text and convert to an Adobe Acrobat document for that genuine MFD look. Also, white pages throw too much light for night flying.
