James Bond
For Your Eyes Only

Aircraft
The movie is bracketed by helicopers!

The opening sequence has Bond getting into a helicopter which is "hijacked" by his old foe who flies the 'copter with a flight sim contraption attached to his wheelchair -little joystick and all!. There are some spectacular shots of low altitude and violent flying with a hapless stunt man (Bond) standing on the skids. Naturally he turns the tables.

Unfortunately this sequence ends so cornily I was ready to award the film 3 MiGs only.

But... with only a couple of lapses into camp - and pretty minor ones at that - the film gets into some serious action.

A seaplane makes a surprising turnabout when it launches into a strafing run with machine guns on the struts. The action wraps up with the arrival of a Mil-8 Soviet Chopper - not doing any stunt flying but nonetheless a delight to see, uniformed (Soviet) pilot and all!

Gadgetry
Surprisingly there are no personal gadgets featured in this... well not counting the exploding car alarm and talking watch.

Computer buffs who remember the '80's will get a kick out of the "3-D Visual Identograph". Bond and Q load the main-frame hard disks onto the machine and as Q types away at a DOS-style interface Bind sees line drawings appearing on the amber screen. Plausible in a way until the hair is laid in as a photographic overlay.
