Comics and Graphic Novels
Where do you find the most energetic of modern artists and novelists working together?
In comic books and graphic novels, that's where!
Most folk know what a comic book is, but what is a Graphic Novel? Simply a series of comic books collected and bound to tell a complete story arc.
Monthly comics are usually written in a serial format, with arcs running typically from 3 to 12 issues. This makes it darned difficult confusing to pick up an issue and follow the story.
Comparative costs of home entertainment
I ran a quick comparison, showing what PC flight sims cost per hour in relation to other popular forms of entertainment. It is interesting to note the both the most expensive and the cheapest items are comic books. The content is the same, the media has changed from print to digital. Flight Sims turn out to be nearly the cheapest form of home entertainment per hour!
The first graphic novel I bought was Superman - Emperor Joker, which was a pretty good read. I would never have hunted down the confusing trail of titles and issues that went into this story arc. Yes, that's another thing, Marvel and DC like to take story lines in the most convoluted loops through their various monthly titles.
If you're lucky, your local comic shop might collect story arcs across titles and sell them as a set. Failing that, the graphic novel is your answer. You can sit down and read a satisfying, self contained story in one volume.
Over Xmas I acquired another 650 single issues, and (almost) completed my collection of the wonderful :
