Francis "Gabby" Gabreski had 28 victories in Europe and then 4 1/2 more in Korea during the 1950's. He nearly washed out of Primary at Parks Air College in 1940. After 18 hours, his instructor pronounced him unlikely to succeed... the rest is history.

Dudley Henriques talks about airshow flying and describes his routines in the P-51 Mustang - including his checklists from take - off to landing.

Dudley Henriques has flown at least seventy different types of airplanes, including experimental, prototype, and fighters, both jet and propeller.

" Air show flying is a great deal more complicated than simply showing off. Those who have approached it with this attitude are mostly gone now.

Even for those of us who have treated it professionally, there has been a price; a real price. My wife and I can count thirty two pilots, most of them personal friends, who have been killed , through either a mechanical failure or pilot error of some kind. "

Chuck Yeager - the man who first broke the sound barrier - " I try another engine switch... nothing happens. The ship is dead and I'm dropping like a bomb, loaded with 5 thousand pounds of volatile fuel, certain to blow a giant crater into the desert floor some 20,000 feet below..."

So opens Yeager's autobiography, describing a flight in the Bell X-1.
