MiG-21 Fishbed takes off from Sydney, Australia

The MiG-21 is probably the most widely used jet fighter. The MiG-21 is probably the most widely used jet fighter.

I was lucky enough to be a special guest at the launch of the first MiG-21 to fly in in Australia. The aircraft was so loud on takeoff we thought it had blown up! I'm not joking ! The impressive acceleration combined with its diminutive size meant that it disappeared from sight very quickly. So quickly that itwas difficuly to pan my camera fast enough to keep it in view. A few seconds after takeoff it had literally disappeared. It was awesome to imagine being on the receiving end of a ground attack by jet aircraft - by the time you heard the sound and looked up it would be raining trouble ! - MiG-21

Pro Pilot running on empty

Pro Pilot by Sierra

Pro Pilot was a civil aviation sim released in 1997 by Sierra. I bought a copy in 2000. In 2001 I finally got around to trying it out for the museum and scanned the box contents, admired the manual and checklists then realised there was no CDROM in the box! Caveat Emptor indeed .. .. .. no wonder I had gotten it so cheaply!

This is scary!

I think these people are a little .. obsessed with virtual reality. They probably need to get into combat flight sims. - The so-called "sim" games.

Eurofighter Typhoon

Eurofighter Typhoon - 2001

Eurofighter Typhoon

It's a long time since I have become so immersed in a sim as I have with this one! the level of immersion takes me back to SVGA Harrier Assault (1992). The sim is easy to get into and has a few great innovations - like the ability to save the game at any point. Purists will scream - but how often have you thought - "If only I could try that again.... ". Well now you can. Pure air combat tactics and no distractions, that's Eurofighter Typhoon
