The programmers packed as much detail as was possible into the VGA resolution. The very next Super-VGA cards hit the market and at 640 x 400 resolution there was no looking back!

Ah... those were the days! I had just built my cockpit and the partnering of Janes and Electronic Arts to form Janes Combat Simulations seemed about to usher in a whole new era of flight simming fidelity.

1942 - Pacific Air War was a World War II air and sea combat simulation from MicroProse -- you could regard it as the spiritual predecessor to the wonderful European Air War. 1942 - Pacific Air War. 1942 - Pacific Air War.

An earlier WW2 Pacific air combat classic : Pacific Air War.

Len "Viking 1" Hjalmarson unearthed a magazine advertisement which pushed the feature of being able to fly the historic battles from both sides.
