USB power management
This problem first came to my attention when the Thrustmaster H.O.T.A.S. Cougar would periodically disconnect from the computer - usually as I worked the rudders during final approach Sad... Sad... Sad...
Computer Pilot Magazine ran an article on this in a 2003 edition. The problem is Windows XP being a little over zealous in it's power management regime. - USB power management

Microsoft Flight Simulator X

One of the most important new features was left off the official list.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X will ship with "missions". This, I think is the cleverest thing they've done yet and will surely get a much wider audience interested in the sim, and flight sims generally.

I couldn't get this classic 1998 sim running under Windows XP. Apparently it is possible, but not without making changes to the system beyond my comfort zone. This involved rolling back graphics drivers - possibly to a point that my current GeForce 6600 GT would not even be suported. Still, there are people playing and modding the sim as we speak, so check it out here -
