New Russian Counter Stealth VHF Band AESA Radar
April 15, 2008
Some more material has appeared of recent on the NNIIRT Nebo SVU - it is a derivative of the legacy 1L13 Nebo SV largely in name only. It looks to be a new design with AESA technology in the VHF band, fully digital. Stated capabilities are the detection of VLO aircraft and ABM search ops. Claimed search mode range for a 1 sq metre RCS VHF band target is 145 nautical miles.
Given the one metre class wavelength of this radar it should provide good detection capability against fighter sized VLO targets. The claimed accuracy in bearing and elevation should present no difficulty in putting a SAM or AAM into the acquisition box for a JSF.
