Fly Like an Eagle

Digital Integration’s F-15 certainly did not fly on rails. It taught the computer pilot some healthy respect for the force of gravity and the laws of aerodynamics.
It responded to control input realistically, dropped the nose a lot and demanded constant attention. It conveyed a sense of power, but also of inertia and mass, requiring thoughtful energy management, especially during landing. Putting the DI F-15 on the runway was the most difficult maneuver the author ever attempted. Because there were few visible objects (mostly airstrips) scattered in the otherwise featureless world of Fighter Pilot, one had little sense of motion and had to rely on the instruments.
