Landing

Ah, the most difficult task of flying an aircraft. But unfortunately manda- tory. The stall speed on this baby is a little high because of the unusual wing configuration, so stay above 200 knots until you're over the runway (or carrier).
  1. Give yourself about 15 km of lateral clearance from the runway, then turn to heading 180, due south. NOTE: It is possible to land on either end of the runway, but since runway traffic takes off going north, be nice and take the extra time and effort to go around to the south end
  2. Wait until you are about 30 km downrange, parallel with the runway. Then make a gentle turn due north (000) and line up with the run- way
  3. Reduce the throttle to 60% and put your gear down
  4. Put the flight path marker on the end of the runway (for a carrier, keep the marker between the edge of the deck and the arresting wires
  5. Slowly reduce the throttle to 40%, then when you get over the end of the runway, pull it Back to 20%
  6. Pitch up high (flare) so the plane stalls onto the runway
  7. Hit the brakes and close the throttle
 		  The realistic HUD mode - pretty good for the early 1990's!



If you have to abort the landing, punch to throttle to 100%, wait a second, then pitch up 20 degrees and go around for another try. Note: if you hit the runway too far down and you are about to go off the end, don't try to take off again: your speed is probably too low. You'd be better off to just eject.
