Harrier Jump Jet Hardware After scanning the material for this museum entry I moved with bated breath towards my P166 laptop , 3 disks in hand, all psyched up for some retro-viffing. Alas it was not to be.... there was data corruption on Disk 1 ... Aaaaaaaaaaaaagghh! Never mind. Under Windows 98 I managed to get the sim running through the configuration screens but it stopped short of launching into flight citing lack of free memory. I rebooted in DOS and tweaked the config.sys and autoexec.bat settings as suggested in the manual but to no avail. From the included technical supplement: " Your Harrier Jump Jet package should contain a manual, this technical supplement, a set of 5.25" high density disks or 3.5" high density disks, and a registration card. Computer: The simulation requires an IBM PC, AT, PS/2, or a computer 100% compatible with one of those models. The computer must have a high-density floppy-disk drive and a hard disk. The simulation will run on a 80286 microprocessor but an 80386 or better is recommended, with at least 1 Mb of RAM. Please see the Memory Management section below for more information. Controls: The simulation can be controlled entirely from a standard or portable PC keyboard or from a combination of joystick or mouse. Display: The simulation requires a VGA / MCGA graphics system. If you are using a compatible graphics card/monitor, it must be 100% hardware compatible to one of the above. Disk Drives: Harrier Jump Jet must be installed onto a hard disk. DOS: You must have Microsoft MS-DOS version 5.0 or a 100% compatible DOS version." |
