The Reference Manual is excellent, including the following information:
- Letters written to the main character's father, setting up the story.
- Profiles of the 14 characters that figure into the story line.
- A short history of flight in combat, leading up to WWI.
- A basic tactics section, as well as a more detailed flying primer
- ("this is an immelmann", etc.).
- Profiles of several aces of WWI, as well as summaries of the major
- battles going on at the time (Verdun, etc.)
- Stats and commentary on the five planes you get to fly.
- Descriptions and illustrations of the various US, British, and French
- medals you can receive
