Although the text and photos are great, it’s the "diagrammatic paintings" that are the heart of this book. They clearly illustrate many of the great battles and aircraft match-ups from WW1 to the Gulf War (showing the set-up and maneuvers in an easily understood format). Very educational and nicely written as well.

The illustrated story of fighter pilot combat from 1914 to the present day by Norman Franks (Barnes and Noble Books, 1999 reprint of book originally published in UK by Grub Street).
