Ivan Rendall Rolling Thunder: Jet Combat from World War II to the Gulf War Chino reported: " Although there are parts that could be considered a bit USAF-centric, I think it’s pretty balanced overall, and it fills in a lot of gaps for me on the amazing strides made by the Germans in the late 1930's and 1940's, the events of the Korean War, Vietnam air war chronology, Soviet training and tactics, Israeli actions in the Six Day War and later, as well as the Falklands War in 1982. I would recommend it to any sim or air combat fan who is interested in the big picture on how jets and jet tactics developed. It was really the Israelis who most convincingly demonstrated the masterful use of jet air power in the years since 1967. It took the USA and its Allies until the Gulf War in 1991 to really show complete mastery of integrated air power, though the reasons for failure in Vietnam were not technical or talent limitations, but political ones that precluded the use of overwhelming force and surprise that Israel used so well in 1967 (Six Day War) and in 1982 (the brilliant attack on the Iraqi nuclear reactor). I noted a few mistakes on aircraft types and in some accounts of air-to-air engagements, but most of these are accurate and well-written. This book doesn't replace first-person accounts by pilots or detailed histories of the particular wars, but it connects the parts and tells the major stories quite effectively."
