The Dreamtime
That's the name of the Australian Aborigine's creation myths and the opening ceremony depicted a young girl's surreal dream in which the creation myths come to life..

" The Aboriginal performances during the Opening Ceremonies included a moving ritual, featuring fire-breathers, stilt-walkers and traditional music, to awaken spirits to bless the Olympic Park. It was followed by a colorful depiction of Australia's natural habitat, with hundreds of children dressed as flowers and animals from the Outback. Later, the pageant chronicled Australian history since British colonization, with gun-toting "bush rangers", wood-choppers and a "lawn-mower ballet" to illustrate the post-World War II economic boom. The show ended with a 2,000-piece band playing one of the country's most famous tunes, 'Waltzing Matilda'.
