Software Utilities Homesite I began this site in late 1998 using Front Page Express to create the pages. FPE came free with Windows 98. I was quite happy for a couple of years - churning out the work - until I had to reinstall Windows on a new machine - the Celeron-466 - and lo and behold - no Front Page!! On to the newsgroups and the experts informed me that really, really, FPE wasn't that good. Well if got the job done for a time but I am left still cleaning up it's legacy - junk code! Well, you get what you pay for. FPE, like any WYSIWYG program, has to make guesses about your intentions and the result is your pages are left with a lot of redundant code. Once I started converting the pages in Homesite I reduced the code by about 30 - 50 %. Homesite is very easy to use - you can even use it in WYSIWYG mode - and I'll be learning it's capabilities for quite some time! The main thing is it makes me much more productive. I couldn't live without the link validator, the global search and replace just to name two features. And it costs much much less than you'd expect. |
