Longbow 2 reviewed at MiGMan's Flight Sim Museum







Longbow 2 was the sequel to Longbow... and it added two more flyable choppers to the Longbow stable... the BlackHawk, and the Kiowa, as well of course as the Apache Longbow. There was also added a virtual cockpit mode, fully scrollable with readable instrument displays. The Kiowa and Blackhawk cockpits featured side by side seating, and the Blackhawk even had door gunners! While not reflecting the graphical quality of the sim, or any sim at the time, it did evoke the right atmosphere ! Longbow 2 succeeds in immersing you totally in it's world and to me this is the most important characteristic of a Combat Flight Sim. Not because of the the fancy graphics effects, although it has that, not the fast scrolling and detailed terrain, although it has that, not the detailed weapons systems, although it has that, not the great sound effects and radio traffic, although it has that too.... it's that indefinable balance of elements, the "artistry", which first addicts, frustrates and then exhilarates.
