Pilot's notes
The prototype XP-86 was first flown in 1947 and was an immediate success.
Several variants later, the F-86E took its place in history with amazing successes against the more agile MiG-15s in the Korean War. The K model had simpler radar and was designed as a basic stern-chase inerceptor. They were produced under licence in Italy and Germany in large numbers. Total production of the F-86 exceeded that of any fixed-wing fighter at a staggering 9,502.
