- Missile Defense
- IFR or Night Intercept
Forward Quarter Radar Guided Missile Attack
Release Weapon when:
- SEEKER HEAD INDICATOR FLASHES
- MISSILE LOCK TONE SOUNDS
- HIT PERCENTAGE > 30 %
Rear Quarter Infra Red Missile Attack
- MANOEUVRE INTO THE BOGEY'S REAR QUARTER
- IR GUIDED AAM SELECTED [
- IR Seeker ON I
- Target DESIGNATE T or /
- STEER TARGET DESIGNATOR BOX INTO TARGETING CIRCLE
RELEASE WEAPON when:
- SEEKER HEAD INDICATOR FLASHES
- MISSILE LOCK BEEPS
- HIT PERCENTAGE > 30 %
Guns Snapshot
Definition: A gun attack achieved by crossing the bogey's flight path (often at high angles of deflection).
Advantages:
- Quick to execute
- Less predictable flight path
Disadvantages:
- More difficult to execute than a tracking shot.
Checklist
- SELECT GUNS [
- Mentally Project the enemy's flight path
- Position Gun Pipper well in front of this path
- Correct as necessary to intersect the enemy flight path
- Fire as bogey comes into range
- WARNING: It is exceedingly dangerous to lose sight of the enemy below the nose of your a/c. If this looks like occurring, maneouvre to keep the bogey to one side rather than below your a/c.
Guns Tracking Shot
Definition: A gun attack achieved by maneuvering to the rear quarter of a bogey.
Advantages:
- More certain kill once a tracking solution is achieved.
Disadvantages:
- Longer time required.
- More predictable flight path required... this is very dangerous in a multi-bogey environment.
ACTIONS
- SELECT GUNS (LCOS)
- Radar ON R
- LOCK TARGET T
- MANOEUVRE TO THE BOGEY'S REAR QUARTER
- Point your nose ahead of the target
- Match the bogey's bank
- Match the bogey's turn rate so the bogey remains a constant distance below your FPI.
- At this stage you are "In the saddle"
- Pull up until the gun reticle is over the target designator box.
- FIRE SHORT BURSTS of 1 second or less
IFR or Night Intercept
Use this checklist when you have to intercept an aircraft at night or in bad weather.
- RADAR ON R
- RADAR DISPLAYED 9
- LOCK ON T
- HUD ARM MODE N
- SELECT LCOS [
- Padlock View ON F4
- Manoeuver behind and below the target aircraft
