Martin Schweiger's Orbiter Space Flight Simulator
Mission 01Chino reported :
" You can see more exotic pix than these on the Orbiter web site, but I was blown away by the quality of the images with the 3d party high-resolution earth textures I installed.
The JPG conversion loses a lot of detail, and I also had to contrast adjust to bring out the terrain, but they still look pretty cool. This was just a sightseeing mission, start at International Space Station (ISS not shown here, but gives high inclination orbit to cover Northern USA and Australia), speed up time to get to the good stuff faster (lots of ocean time, you can accel 10x to 10000x).
Spacecraft is the add-on Delta Glider III, a semi-futuristic shuttle craft (it can take off from a runway and land with power - III is a jazzed-up version of the standard DG with a programmable autopilot and configurable crew who can EVA and need to have attention paid to their life support). There are city lights on the night side (not shown).
I think Orbiter should really be flown in a dark room up close to a big monitor. It's like looking out the window of the Shuttle, with Bach, Strauss, and Ravel cycling in the background. "
