Su-27 Flanker

MiGMan’s Combat Diary | 1998

Su-27 Flanker was designed by a team of Russian programmers to run on 386 and low end 486 machines. The project was taken on by SSI and revised to SVGA graphics resolution. The Russian designers didn't have access to the faster PC's, and as a result their code was very efficient... it ran very smoothly!
The sim recreates the Crimean peninsula in great detail and pits you, in the Su-27 Flanker, against the latest Russian and NATO aircraft, armour, ships and SAMs.

Cockpit. Cutting edge at time of release.
When you start the sim you're launched into the mission editor. Unlike many flight sims, where the mission editor is am afterthought and often quite unreliable and difficult to use, Flanker's mission editor is an integral part of the sim.

Load your mission of choice - they are categorised by type - and you're in the air... or on the runway!
The world of Flanker was probably the most detailed environment attempted before the advent of 3D Graphics accelerator cards.

The wealth of detail included: Virtual cockpit, Radar display, street lights, level crossings with gates, vehicle traffic, rear view mirrors.
