Aviation Thrill Rides by Stephen Coonts

A great series of action packed modern aviation techno-thrillers. And check out the movie, "Flight of the Intruder", based on Stephen Coonts’s experiences in Vietnam as an A-6 Intruder pilot.

Cannibal Queen
In Cannibal Queen Coont's pilots his restored Stearman biplane on a journey through America. WARNING If this book doesn't motivate you to run out and sign up for flying lessons nothing will!

Flight of the Intruder | book
Flight of the Intruder (1986) introduces Jake Grafton, an A-6 Intruder driver whose adventures run through The Red Horseman. It recounts the adventures and frustrations of the Vietnam war as seen from the Navy pilots perspective. A classic of modern military aviation fiction.
Movie | Flight of the Intruder - based on the book by Stephen Coonts - this movie recreates the action around Hanoi when A-6 Intruders went up against the most sophisticated air defense system the world had seen.
Sure the effects aren't as slick as we are accustomed to in the late '90's but I've seen this movie about 6 or 7 times and enjoyed it each time. Read about the Flight of the Intruder flight sim.

The Intruders
In The Intruders we follow Jake Grafton's adventures after Flight of the Intruder as he is assigned to teach carrier aviation aboard a Marine carrier.

Final Flight
Final Flight (1988) continues the adventures of Jake Grafton as he tackles terrorists. Good F-14 Tomcat action. Am I the only person who noticed the uncanny similarity between this book and a movie released shortly after - "Under Siege" with Stephen Seagal foiling the efforts of terrorists to hijack a battle ship?
That's Hollywood I guess.

Fortunes of War / Under Siege
Four Japanese nationalists storm Tokyo's imperial palace and behead the emperor. Their goal: to invade Russia and conquer oil-rich Siberia in order to dominate the globe. Soon the world explodes in war, as Japan, Russia and the United States go head-to-head in a struggle that threatens total destruction.

The Minotaur
The Minotaur is set in the days before the Stealth Fighter was publically unveiled, hence the old F-19 shaped aircraft on the cover. Plenty of aerial action and intrigue.

The Red Horseman
The Red Horseman continues the adventures of Jake Grafton as he journeys to the Soviet union in a tale of intrigue, espionage and hot flying! I particularly enjoyed the sequence involving Jake Grafton flying and fighting in a Su-25 Frogfoot.
