Lake Macquarie
Description
Take off from RAAF Base Williamtown and explore the water wonderland that is Lake Macquarie.
Nobbys Point (WP 1) is at Newcastle, one of the area's major centres, sitting astride the Hunter River and formerly a centre of steel production.
Williamtown is adjacent to the long stretch of Stockton Beach, with it's large sand dunes, and the route down to Budgewoi (WP 3) is one beach after another.
Lake Macquarie has a narrow entrance which at Swansea Heads (WP 2) where the boat traffic in and out is controlled by dedicated volunteers. They also help coordinate search and rescue over the vast expanse of the lake which takes many hours to explore in a light aircraft. Aeropelican aerodrome can be found on the north side of the Swansea channel.
