Dam Busters (2002)

02 Derwent Dam Training | Day
Ac : Avro Lancaster
Briefing

The Derwent Dam was chosen by the newly formed 617 Squadron as an area for practicing the intensive low level flying and mine aiming techniques as it was very similar to the German dams they were going to attack. Although no Upkeep mines were dropped on the Derwent Dam it was invaluable for practicing the precise low level flying critical for the breaching of the Dams on the Ruhr.
These practice raids lasted for a six-week period and were led by Guy Gibson.
At the target area :
Maintain altitude of 1,130 feet
Speed 195 kts
DO NOT destroy the dam !!!!!
MiGMan's Diary
He he he - I couldn't resist dropping a load of bombs at the Derwent Dam... hey I followed orders, in that I didn't hit actually it (despite my best effort). Needless to onetheless I got into a pile of trouble.
These images were taken using a Hercules 3D Prophet III Titanium 500
Dam Busters opens the bomb bay door to a new experience in Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 2- that of the bomber pilot.
You need a different mindset than when flying the fighters - accurate station keeping is everything on the final bomb run. Even getting the beasts into the air is a challenge!
The aircraft handling and sounds combine to create an immersive experience just flying circuits. With a decent stereo (computer) sound system the engine starts are are real treat. In the air you really have to work the plane to get all your ducks in a row and that's a satisfying experience in itself.
So, not one for hotshot fighter jock chappies - but one for a more deliberate, thoughtful style of flying. As the sergeant major says... S T E A D YYYYYYYYYYYY.
