SOUTHOAKCO, in partnership with Barelli MSFS Addons, presents Trieste Airport (LIPQ) and Ronchi dei Legionari Points of Interest.
Trieste Airport (IATA: TRS, ICAO: LIPQ) is the largest passenger airport in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, located in the municipality of Ronchi dei Legionari, a few steps from Monfalcone and Redipuglia. The structure, open to commercial traffic, is equipped with an asphalt track 3000 m long and 45 m wide, with orientation RWY 09-27; it is managed by the company Aeroporto Friuli Venezia Giulia S.p.A. with the name of "Trieste Airport - Friuli Venezia Giulia".
The first airport in the territory of Ronchi dei Legionari is the training camp of the 4th Fighter Wing, established in 1935, and then for a few months there is the 17th Fighter Group until 8 September 1943.
The civil airport began operations on 2 December 1961. In 1978 the track was extended to the current 3,000 meters. The control tower, which still manages the airport’s traffic, was inaugurated in 1982. In 1998, the extension and modernisation of the terminal were completed, allowing a capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year. A freight terminal is also built.
On 9 June 2011, the development of an intermodal hub began, which would have extended within an area of 475000 m² between the airport and the current Venice-Trieste railway line. Development that will be concluded on 19 March 2018 with the inauguration of the new intermodal pole, a new railway station called "Trieste Airport-Ronchi dei Legionari" connected to the passenger terminal through an elevated walkway 425 meters long. In addition, there is a bus and bus station, a 500-seat multi-storey car park and a 1000-seat car park.
