For my 5th project, this time I've chosen the Šoštanj airport (LJSG) with the nearby thermal power plant complex and the city castle ruins.
Like in many Slovenian airfields, Šoštanj aeroclub history predates WW2 with aviation enthusiasts operating in the area.
The aeroclub was officially established in 1971 and the asphalt runway was finished in October 1980. Currently the airport is maintained by the Šaleški Aeroklub.
Given its short asphalt runway the airport serves only small general aviation aircraft, up to 5,670 kg MTOM with exceptions if the performance of the plane is adequate
NOTE: Surrounding terrain and wind patterns dictates that the runway is usable only in one direction: runway 15 is for takeoff only, while runway 33 may only be used for landing.
Additionally, this package also contains the landmark of the Šoštanj thermal power plant located just a few miles out. The plant operates 4 generating units (two lignite fueled and two natural gas fueled). It is estimated that the plant produces one third of all the electric power in Slovenia.
The solid fuel units at the plant are supplied by the nearby Velenje Coal Mine. Due to past corruption and current environmental issues, the complex is subject of controversy.

And again a big thanks goes to Dušan, he is the main contributor for all high resolution photos used in the project. Online references were used too. The build was tested and reviewed for VR with good fps results (i7 8700, rtx3080, 32Gb, Reverb G2).
