Airbases

Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator

There are quite a number of airbases in the sim - the complete list is below.

A useful map of the theatre can be downloaded from www.simviation.com.

Most of the airfields use the same scenery objects as seen at Berne and Calais.

  • Abbeville
  • Alteno
  • Asch
  • Athis
  • Audembert
  • Azeville
  • Messerschmidt Bf-109E
    Berne
    - This is representative of most airbases in the sim.
  • Biggin Hill
  • Bodney
  • Boissy-le-Bois
  • Bonn-Hangelar
  • Boxted
  • Brooklands
  • Caen
  • Calais

  • Cambrai
  • Focke-Wulf Fw-190A over Central Berlin
    Central Berlin
    - no airbases but much more detail here as you would expect.
  • Central London
Central London gets the Royal treatment !
There is no actual airbase but London gets the most detailed treatment in Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator (1998), with numerous landmarks dotting the Thames River.
  • Messerschmidt Bf-109G - virtual cockpit over Central Paris
    Central Paris
    - gets a detailed treatment.
  • Cherbourg

  • Republic P-47D at Interlaken in Switzerland
    Interlaken in Switzerland
    - Spectacular mountainous scenery. This was quite jaw-dropping in 1998.
  • Juvaincourt
  • Kenley
  • Kitzingen
  • Laon
  • Le Havre
  • Leipheim - 2 runways
  • Leiston
  • Lille
  • Lucerne - Switzerland - Mountainous terrain
  • Luton
  • Manston - IK - some rolling hills
  • Martlesham
  • Middle Wallop
  • Monchengladbach
  • Sopwith Camel at 2,000 feet over Southhampton
    Southhampton
    - No airbase, but what were in 1998, quite exciting and convincing 2-D bitmaps of the docks.
  • Northholt
  • Oldenburg
  • Plantunne
  • Rennes
  • Rochford
  • Rotenburg
  • Supermarine Spitfire MkI at 10,000 feet over Saint-Malo
    Saint-Malo
    - At this altitude the urban detail looks quite uncanny. Dogfighting over this made my stomach leap in protest, providing excellent immersion.

  • Schongau - mountainous terrain nearby
  • Steeple Morden
  • Stendal
  • Tangmere
  • Thalheim - 2 runways, rolling hills nearby

  • West Malling
  • Woensdrecht
  • Woolston
  • Etaples - listed last in the sim's location menu becasue of the accent mark over the "E" in the French language.
