" "Smokin’ Hot," Race number 3, is a sleek-looking and fast flying Pitts that in 2016, the first year racing under that name, qualified for Reno’s Biplane Gold race and finished seventh with a blazing average speed of 195.113 miles per hour. That wasn’t even its top 2016 speed, however – during Heat 3A, Smokin’ Hot clocked an average speed of 196.872 mph. This beautiful beast, painted brilliant red with white lines and accents, features a number of customizations. These include clipped wings (by three feet) that are squared off, a sleek canopy, and engine optimizations. Smokin’ Hot uses a racing propeller that has a high fixed pitch and a diameter that is smaller than used for aerobatics. This allows the airplane, once “spun up" to attain speeds like 203.215 miles per hour, as the airplane did in 2016 during the Biplane qualifying round. In 2021, Smokin’ Hot qualified for the coveted Biplane Gold race."
