Ultra FIghters: The Future of Dogfighting

MiGMan’s Combat Diary 1998

Ultra Fighters was a futuristic Combat Sim set here on Planet Earth and released in 1999. Before you play you have to ask yourself, do you have The Right Stuff? In the year 2571 you might find out as a pilot with the Navco mercenary group your job is to rid the Solomon Islands of Zindo forces.

Why the Solomon Islands?
Who is Zindo?

Well it's all to do with global war, struggles over energy sources etc. But don't let the details bother you too much, the task at hand is to stay alive and shoot down the other guys.

And that's a good thing!

Some things never change though, the bad guys still get the best paint schemes.

Airbrakes open and split flaps extended this baby is ready to land.

Yes it has Carrier Ops... albeit with a difference.
These carriers float around at 5,000 ft!

The padlock view from Sabre Ace is back. It doesn't scroll, but jumps to the relevant view. Some folks find this very annoying but it doesn't worry me particularly. The game has a campaign which involves a bit of resource management as you earn credits to buy ship and weapon upgrades.

The ground structures are well laid out and blow up nicely with a few shots of the laser cannon. This sim is strongly geared to iMagic's online gaming arena initially offering a free arena and later moving to pay as you play.

Published by i-Magic developed by Eagle Interactive and distributed in Australia by Directsoft.
Test system: P233MMX, 64 meg ram, Creative 16 Meg Banshee graphics accelerator

Ultrafighters combines the feel and look of a space sim with clouds, hills, vehicles and buildings to attack. If a Space Sim is your style, you get the best of both worlds!
