I'm in the Bell 407 over Capodistria Slovenia and just wanted to do a little video.
Hi guys, I like to give my wave, how are you going over there? Hi!
This is my normal flying view, that is to say no cockpit there sitting in my physical cockpit. I've got a full 85 inch screen in front of me panoramic view and it's very very immersive. For many reasons.
One (reason) is that I've got the physical cockpit in front of me, I can touch it, I can see it. and then about half a meter in front of that is where the world begins.
So your eyes are changing FOCUS as you look out to the hilltop and back to the instruments.
If I'm looking at the hills the cockpit is out of focus and vice versa, just like the real world. I don't think it happens in VR, I'm not sure, but it happens here and I can say it's one of the key factors to providing immersion because it mimics the real world.
The other thing is the physicality. I've got and feet on controls (rudders) obviously and I reach around the cockpit by feel to adjust everything from radios to electronics, avionics even the volume. Various things and the act of reaching around the cockpit and flicking physical switches, I'll flick one now okay PITOT heat you might be able to hear it, the physicality also enhances the sense of motion. I have to say I never want to touch a mouse when I'm flying.
I'm looking left, looking straight ahead, it all works very well.
Let's come in for a landing. Let's go for the stadium again.
Okay I picked a landing spot, almost there, and we're down! There we go, great fun!
